Brothers

The Big Idea: I was scrolling through my friend’s Netflix Queue when she stopped me and pointed at a title.
“Brothers,” she said “I heard it’s freaky.”
I, being a humongous fan of horrors, quickly spurt out “is it scary?”
“That’s what I’ve heard,” she replied.
But I was disappointed…

The Breakdown: There’s nothing like the tragic news of a loved one’s death, even if in a few weeks the somber information turns out to be false. To me, no thrill is found in a movie that portrays the drama of a military death, or shows the after effects on a man following his captivity. No twists, or turns. Brothers contains no “edge of the seat” moments or “looking through your fingers” scenes. There’s only that “I’m psychic because I knew that would happen” feeling. Directed by Jim Sheridan (In America) and starring Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Jake Gyllenhaal (Prince of Persia, Brokeback Mountain), and Tobey Maguire (Spiderman), Brothers chucks viewers into a grieving and confused household.

For People Who: If you enjoy movies such as Flag of our Fathers, Brothers is perfect for you. Personally, I live for the heart-pounding scenes in action or horror movies. I adore a good butt-kicking to the bad guy or that light-stomach feeling. Brothers almost killed me from the boredom, but if you’re one for a returning- barbaric soldier gone wrong, this movie’s for you.
